PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Myles Garrett had a productive, sometimes frustrating, one-time criminal relationship in his nine years in Cleveland against the Steelers. Garrett traded by the Browns to the Rams for Jared Verse and draft picks on Monday.
Overall in 16 games (tied with Ravens for most against any team), Garrett had 13 sacks (3rd most against any team). His 14 tackles for loss were third most in his career and his 26 quarterback hits were second most against any opponent. The 30-year-old had twice as many forced fumbles (four) against the Steelers than any other team.
Garrett’s best game against the Steelers was November 21, 2024 finishing with three sacks of Russell Wilson and a forced fumble in a 24-19 Browns win in Cleveland. Garrett’s first sack turned a 50-yard field goal attempt into 58 yards, which was missed. Garrett stopped a Justin Fields run attempt on 4th and 2, tackling him for -2 yards. The defensive end’s strip sack of Wilson led to a Cleveland field goal.
Last year Garrett did not have a sack against the Steelers.

The most infamous moment of his career, let alone against the Steelers, was November 19, 2019 in Cleveland. Down 21-7 with seven seconds left, Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph threw a screen pass and Garrett drove him to the ground after the pass. The pair tussled on the ground and Garrett ripped Rudolph’s helmet off his head as Rudolph went after Garrett, he swung the helmet striking Rudolph’s skull.
NFL immediately suspended Garrett indefinitely and he missed the last six games of the regular season and paid an undisclosed fine. Garrett said during his NFL appeal hearing that Rudolph used a racial slur. Rudolph strongly denied the charge, Steelers players and Mike Tomlin also said Rudolph never used a racial slur. The NFL never found any evidence of anything said by Rudolph.
Later Garrett would express regret for using the helmet as a weapon.
During his career in Cleveland, the Browns went 54-79-1, making the playoffs twice. His lone career postseason win came against the Steelers, otherwise he went 5-9-1 against Pittsburgh.
