Kansas City's place in the sports world continues to grow by the day, it seems. Already playing host to the Big 12 tournament and recent World Series games, the city's next few years will include other huge events like the NFL Draft and then, notably, a round of World Cup games in 2026. Speaking to 610's Fescoe In The Morning on Thursday, former KC mayor Kay Barnes -- who was one of the driving forces behind downtown KC's revitalization -- talked about what a tremendous set of opportunities the city has coming up.

"Well it's going to be a great opportunity to showcase Kansas City and the entire region," she said. "I have great confidence in Kathy Nelson, the sports commission, and all of the other organizations and individuals who will really rise to the occasion. It'll be a great opportunity, as I said, to really showcase our metropolitan area."
