(610 Sports) – Nobody foresaw the Kansas City Chiefs sitting at 5-4 after 9 games, this season, but here we are. Fortunately, no other team in the AFC has run away from the pack, leaving an opportunity for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to make up the ground that was lost at the beginning of the season.

For that to happen, the Chiefs are going to need the offense and defense to be clicking at the same time, something that hasn't happened so far, this season.

Through the first 6 games of this year, the offense was averaging 37 points and the defense was giving up 29 per... That trend has seemingly reversed course over the last three contests, with the offense only mustering 12 points per game and the defense giving up 17, a number that has continued to go down over the last two contests, where they've given up 17 to the Giants and 7 points to the Packers.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes joined 610 Sports Carrington Harrison of The Drive on Monday, to talk about the AFC West, the AFC playoff picture, and the Chiefs' outlook on the rest of the season.

"Even in our division in general, everybody has 5 wins," said Mahomes. "The whole entire AFC is in that 4,5 or 6 (wins) area. For us not to play the way we wanted to play, obviously, at the beginning of the year, to kind of have everything out in front of us, that we can go out there and play to get this rolling and just play football week by week and hopefully have a chance to be where we wanted to be, anyway, at the end of the year, it's definitely something that keeps you optimistic."

"We understand that we have a huge week this week going up against the Raiders, and at their place, so we're focusing on this week of just going in and making ourselves better and trying to find a way to win a football game against a really good football team."
