(610 Sports) If he wins his second Super Bowl championship with a repeat Sunday, Patrick Mahomes would keep Tom Brady from winning his seventh.
Mahomes, 25, has spoken in the past about his desire to be a championship quarterback like Brady, the 44-year-old Buccaneers leader whom Mahomes' Chiefs need to contain Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. But Mahomes isn't thinking about legacies as he prepares for a second Super Bowl.
Instead, he's thinking about winning another championship, not catching Brady.
"That's more of a long-term thing than kind of a short-term thing," Mahomes said. "For me, I'm trying to find a way to repeat, find a way to win a second championship and find a way to do whatever I can to win with this team. You don't get these opportunities every single year in the NFL, to be in the Super Bowl, to be in these games. You don't want to look back and have regrets about how you played, how you went about the week preparing to go out and play your best football.
"Once the end of your career is done, then you want to look at those things and see kind of where the moments were in your career where you could've had something or you could've executed and didn't go out there and achieve your dreams."
Mahomes and Brady last squared off on the playoff stage two years ago in the AFC championship game in January 2019, when Brady and the Patriots prevailed 37-31 in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs earned a championship with Mahomes leading the way in a 31-20 victory against the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV last February.
