(610 Sports) -- Whit Merrifield likes to joke that Royals pitcher Brady Singer "doesn't have a lot going on between his ears." Merrifield claims the young hurler only thinks about what he's gonna eat, arm care, and fastballs and sliders, which may have been the case during a recent series against the Toronto Blue Jays, in which Merrifield says Singer became confused during the playing of the Canadian National Anthem.

During Brady Singer's rookie season in 2020, the team didn't play the Toronto Blue Jays due to COVID traveling restrictions, so last week's series against the Blue Jays was Singer's first time hearing 'O Canada,' which led to Merrifield's amusing story about his young teammate.

"We're out there on the line and the guy plays 'O Canada' on the clarinet, so there are no words, so I'll give Brady I guess a little bit of credit here, there's no words and he does a great job," Merrifield chuckles. "So we're standing on the line, it was myself and I think Benintendi or somebody was between myself and Singer, and when 'O Canada' got done, Singer turned around with just like a baffled look on his face, like so confused, no idea what just happened. He turned around and goes, "What the hell was that song?" The entire national anthem I was just doing everything I could to not bust out laughing. We all started dying laughing and that didn't help because nobody told him what the Canadian anthem was, nobody answered his question and so he was even more confused after the anthem," Merrifield said between laughs.

"Did I miss something, did we..., did something..., are we paying some sort of tribute to somebody? What was that song?" Merrifield recalls Singer asking. "We tell him it's the playing of the Canadian anthem and he was all, "Oh sorry, I guess we don't get many Canadians down in Florida."

According to Merrifield, that's just classic Singer and there are more stories where that came from. You can catch Whit Merrifield every Monday at 11am on 'The Whitt Merrifield Show' with Cody & Gold.
