97.3 The Fan

Fernando Tatis Jr. and Wil Myers hit back-to-back home runs of closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth inning to give the San Diego Padres an 8-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs Tuesday at Wrigley Field. Tatis’ three-run shot followed a walk to Tommy Pham and a single by Manny Machado, and put the Padres ahead, 6-4. Myers then hit one into the bleachers, giving him a home run in consecutive games.

Chris Paddack started for San Diego, and took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. But after singles by Anthony Rizzo and Nick Castellanos, catcher Willson Contreras hit a three-run homer to put the Cubs on top, 4-3. Luis Perdomo pitched the eighth inning in relief of Paddack, picking up the win when San Diego erupted in the ninth.

Jose Quintana started for Chicago, giving up single runs in the second, third and fifth. Ty France, coming off of a career-high four-hit game Sunday in Mexico City against Arizona, had two doubles, one of which drove in a run to make it 3-1 San Diego in the fifth.

Pham finished with a three-hit day, including a solo home run in the third. San Diego had 10 hits in all to the Cubs’ five, and stranded 13 runners on base, a season high.
