The Padres lost their series opener to the Blue Jays 5-1 on Friday night, after falling behind by five runs after two innings. After Justin Turner's solo homer put Toronto on top in the 1st inning, Kevin Kiermaier drove in 2 runs with a double in the 2nd, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI-single, and Justin Turner added an RBI-single of his own to open up a 5-0 lead. All five runs were charged to Matt Waldron. The Padres bullpen pitched very well, tossing a combined 4.1 scoreless innings and allowing just four hits while striking out seven Blue Jays. But the Padres mustered just 5 hits, with Fernando Tatis Jr.'s solo homer in the 3rd accounting for their only score. The Padres will aim to even up the series on Saturday.
