German Marquez made his Padres debut on Tuesday night, and it did not go the way he had hoped. The former Rockie labored through the 1st inning, surrendering a leadoff home run to Willy Adames. Marquez retired two of the next three hitters, while issuing a walk to Heliot Ramos, but then gave up a single to Matt Chapman followed by a two-run double to Jung-Hoo Lee, putting the Padres in a 3-0 hole before taking an at-bat. Marquez would allow a solo homer to Chapman in the 3rd, ending his night with a line of 4 earned runs on 8 hits and a walk in 3 innings of work. San Diego would pull to within a run after scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but that was as close as they would get to the Giants, as their 4-run 6th inning put the game out of reach. After losing their first three games, the Giants' bats came to life, scoring 9 runs on 16 hits. The Padres again struggled to hit with runners in scoring position, going 2-9. Nick Pivetta will try to stop the bleeding and prevent a sweep when he takes the mound on Wednesday afternoon.
