After beating the Dodgers on Friday night, the Padres lost on Saturday and Sunday to lose the series two games to one. Pitching was what undid the Padres in each game, as Randy Vasquez allowed 7 runs (4 earned) appearing in bulk relief after Kyle Hart and Michael King allowed 4 earned runs in 4.1 innings on Sunday. The Padres pulled to within 2 runs on Sunday afternoon following Xander Bogaerts' RBI-single in the bottom of the 6th inning, and then had a great opportunity in the 8th inning to tie the game or take the lead. Manny Machado led off the inning with a double, and then Ty France was hit by a pitch, putting the tying run on base with no outs. After working a full count, Bogaerts struck out on what would have been ball four. Miguel Andujar then grounded into an inning-ending double play to end the threat, as the Padres lost 4-2. The Padres wrapped up the homestand with a 4-2 record against the Braves and Dodgers, and will take on the Cubs at Wrigley Field beginning on Monday.
