The Padres avoided a home sweep at the hands of the Giants, ending their two game losing streak with a 7-1 win on Wednesday afternoon. Nick Pivetta bounced back from a rough outing on Opening Day, striking out 8 hitters over 5 scoreless innings. It was a welcome sight for the Padres to get such a strong start after how the back end of their rotation had pitched the previous two games. The Padres scored a run on fielding errors by the Giants in the 1st and 5th innings, before Gavin Sheets drove in an insurance run in the 6th with a double to center field. The Padres' bats finally woke up in the 8th inning, adding four runs on the board, highlighted by Ramon Laureano's two-run homer. The Padres will now head to Boston for a series against the Red Sox beginning on Friday morning.
