The Padres' bats woke up on Saturday afternoon, as they piled on 8 runs against the Rockies to earn their first win of the season. Xander Bogaerts' first home run as a Padre came with a man on in the first inning, giving the Friars a 2-0 lead. Another new addition, Matt Carpenter, also contributed with a 2-run double in the 3rd to give the Padres an early 4-run lead. Things got dicey in the 6th inning, when CJ Cron followed Charlie Blackmon's RBI-double with a 2-run homer, his 3rd of the series, to cut the Padres lead to 1 run. But Manny Machado drove in Jose Azocar in the bottom of the 6th, and Juan Soto tacked on two insurance runs in the 8th. The Padres will look to split the opening series on Sunday with a win against the Rockies.
