The Padres broke ground on Monday on a renovation of Gallagher Square in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Petco Park. The renovations will take place throughout the offseason, and be ready for Opening Day 2024. Some of the new amenities will include:
- Playground and Play Area expanded for wider range of ages and abilities
- Fenced, off-leash dog park
- Improved Play Ball Field
- Tony Gwynn Terrace viewing deck and picnic space
- State of the art technology and sound mitigation
Alicia Gwynn spoke about what it means to the Gwynn family to have Tony Gwynn's statue elevated, and surrounded by an expanded viewing deck in order to be better aligned with the statue of fellow Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman:
