The Padres used a 7-run 8th inning to spur a much needed come from behind victory over the Dodgers at Petco Park on Saturday night. Blake Snell labored through 5 innings, giving up 3 runs while the Padres bats mostly remained quiet outside of Manny Machado's 4th inning solo homer. But they rallied in the bottom of the 8th inning, thanks to a patient plate approach and shoddy defense by the Dodgers. Gary Sanchez led off the inning with a single, and Ha-Seong Kim and Fernando Tatis Jr. both drew walks to load the bases with 1 out. Juan Soto hit a dribbler to second base, and Kike Hernandez threw the ball into the dugout, allowing 2 runs to come in and tie the game. Then Machado smoked a 2-run single to take the lead. The Padres would tack on 3 more runs on singles by Jake Cronenworth and Trent Grisham, and seal an 8-3 win over the Dodgers.
