The Padres lost to the Reds 4-3 on Sunday, dropping 2 of 3 at Great American Ball Park. Adrian Morejon was effective in his start, hurling 3 efficient scoreless innings on just 42 pitches. But Reds rookie Andrew Abbott was even better, striking out 12 Padres and allowing just one run in 7.2 innings. Spencer Steer put the Reds up 2-0 with a 2-run homer in the 4th inning. That score would hold until Ha-Seong Kim's solo homer in the 8th cut the deficit in half. Fernando Tatis then tied the game with a solo blast of his own in the 8th. Unfortunately, Tyler Stephenson put the Reds back on top with a 2-run blast in the bottom half of the 8th inning. In the top of the 9th, Jake Cronenworth drove in Gary Sanchez with a 2-out double, pulling the Friars to within a run with the game-tying run at second base. But pinch-hitter Rougned Odor lined out to second base to end the game. The Padres now return home for a 6-game homestand against the Angels and Mets before the All-Star break.
