The Padres lost to the Red Sox 4-2 on Saturday night, dropping their record to 20-26. It was their 4th loss in a row and 11th in their last 13 games. Joe Musgrove gave up a 3-run homer to Enmanuel Valdez in the 2nd inning, putting the Padres in a 3-0 hole early on. Juan Soto responded with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Padres' deficit to 2 runs. Alex Verdugo drove in Kike Hernandez with an RBI-single in the 4th inning to extend Boston's lead back to 3 runs. Fernando Tatis Jr. blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the 6th, but this night belonged to Chris Sale, as he allowed just 2 runs and struck out 8 in 7 innings pitched. The Padres will try to avoid being swept when they turn to Michael Wacha on Sunday.
