The Padres dropped a hard-fought game to the Dodgers 4-3 on Wednesday night in a game that had a playoff feel. For the second night in a row, the Dodgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, this time on an RBI-single from Teoscar Hernandez. For the second night in a row, the Padres responded with two runs in the 2nd inning to take a 2-1 lead. Xander Bogaerts his an RBI-single and Jackson Merrill came in to score on a groundout by Jake Cronenworth. Gavin Lux tied the game with a run-scoring single in the 4th off of Dylan Cease, and then Shohei Ohtani ripped an RBI-double to put the Dodgers back on top 3-2. Fernando Tatis Jr. immediately responded by hitting a missile over the left field fence in the 5th inning to tie the game at 3. In the 6th inning, Ohtani's offensive barrage continued, as he delivered what turned out to be the game-winning hit with a single up the middle to bring in Will Smith. The loss dropped the Padres 3 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West standings, and all but ended their hopes of winning the division. The rubber match between the Padres and Dodgers will feature Joe Musgrove against Walker Buehler on Thursday evening.
