The Padres had one of their best victories of the season, overcoming a 6-run deficit to beat the Marlins 8-6. Stephen Kolek got off to a very rough start, allowing all 6 runs, all earned, in the 1st inning on five singles and a walk, putting the Padres in a deep hole early. The Padres slowly clawed their way back, with Fernando Tatis hitting a solo homer in the bottom of the first to snap the offensive funk he had been in. The Padres scored 2 unearned runs in the 2nd inning thanks to a throwing error by Ronny Simon. San Diego scored two more runs in the 3rd, and then capitalized on two more errors by Simon in the 4th inning, tying the game at 6-6 on an RBI-single by Luis Arraez. All in all, Simon made 3 errors in the 3 innings before being removed from the game. Arraez drove in the go-ahead run with another RBI-single in the 5th inning, as he went 3-5 with 2 RBIs on the night, and Jackson Merrill put an exclamation point on the evening by blasting a solo homer in the 8th and unleashing a massive bat flip. Jeremiah closed things out in the 9th inning to earn his first save of the season. The Padres will have an opportunity to complete a sweep of the Marlins on Wednesday with Kyle Hart on the mound.
