UPDATE: The Padres have officially announced the Juan Soto trade:

Padres GM and President of Baseball Operations AJ Preller discussed the trade late Wednesday night:

According to multiple reports, the Padres and Yankees have completed a trade that will send Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to the Yankees in exchange for pitchers Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito and Randy Vasquez, along with veteran catcher Kyle Higashioka. King had a breakout 2nd half for the Yankees, striking out 76 hitters in 56 innings with a 2.73 ERA in 9 starts after the All-Star break. And Thorpe was the Yankees' 2nd round pick in 2022. In addition to the players listed above, the Padres would gain financial flexibility as a result of sending out Soto's projected $33M salary combined with Grisham's projected $5M salary, while the combined value of the salaries they're bringing in is under $8M.
