With the landscape of college sports ever-changing due to conference realignment, San Diego State could be on the move as well. Longtime national sports media personality Dan Patrick reports that San Diego State is expected to join the Pac-12, with an announcement potentially coming as early as this week. Joining a Power-5 conference would be a huge step forward for the Aztecs' athletic program, giving them increased exposure and enhanced competition with an opportunity to compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff, as well as opportunity for more at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament. According to The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach, Patrick's report is inaccurate, as the Pac-12 would prefer to figure out its media rights deal prior to expansion. An SDSU spokesperson declined to comment on Patrick's report when reached by 97.3 The Fan's Ben Higgins.
Re: the report about the Pac-12 announcing the addition of SDSU as soon as this week, a source close to the situation tells @TheAthletic that the report is inaccurate.
It's been my understanding that the Pac-12 will do its media deal first before any conference expansion.
