SDSU tops Idaho State to improve to 2-0

San Diego State held on for a 36-28 win over Idaho State at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday night. The Aztecs had their rushing offense clicking, amassing 302 yards on 47 carries, including 132 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 8 carries from quarterback Jalen Mayden. After holding a 20-13 lead at the half, SDSU outscored their opponent 9-0 in the 3rd quarter, and looked like they had the game in control. They were able to overcome a crucial fumble by Jaylon Armstead at the 10 yard line, by scoring a safety on a high snap that went over the punter's head and out of the end zone, followed by a 3-yard touchdown run by Martin Blake on the following possession. The Bengals wouldn't go away quietly though, as they conducted a 14-play 80-yard touchdown drive with a successful 2-point converstion to draw within 8 points with nearly an entire quarter to play. A few possessions later, Jalen Mayden ran for a 56-yard score to extend the lead to 15. Idaho State led another long touchdown drive to pull within one possession with 39 seconds remaining, but Brady Hoke and Company were able to lineup in victory formation after the kickoff to go home with a win. San Diego State will host UCLA next Saturday at 4:30 at Snapdragon Stadium.
