When you’re feeling your lowest, something as simple as a hug can brighten your day. But what happens when there’s no one around to hug you?
Researchers at UC Berkeley say that hugging yourself for 20 seconds a day can reduce stress and make you happier!
The key to this practice is consistency, though! According to Boing Boing, Eli Susman, a UC Berkeley PhD candidate in clinical science, says that hugging yourself can reduce stress only if your practice it “regularly.”
Susman explained, "More frequent practice was associated with a greater increase in self-compassion and a greater reduction in stress and mental health problems like symptoms of depression or anxiety, compared to a control group."
