Bond is set at 50-thousand dollars on the Greenville woman charged with kidnapping for stealing a car with a baby in the backseat, but she refused to show up in court.
The judge says 24-year-old Rebecca Wells declined four times to appear at bond hearings set for Tuesday and again Wednesday. The car she's accused of stealing at a Buncombe Road gas station store, apparently unaware that a child was in it, collided with another vehicle half a block away.
Investigators say Wells jumped out and ran leaving the baby in the car. She was caught nearby, and briefly hospitalized for something authorities say was not related to the accident. The infant, under a year old, was checked out at the hospital and found unhurt. Wells faces trial for kidnapping and grand larceny.
