One Upstate city says it will now recognize Juneteenth as a holiday. On Monday, the Mauldin City Council voted unanimously to adopt Juneteenth as a city wide holiday.
Councilman Michael Reynolds said " “We wanted to proactively acknowledge a significant day for many members of our community and recognize the importance of freedom, equality and opportunity for all individuals.”
Mauldin City Officials say the move will help create an environment of inclusion and that they are working to plan the city's 1st ever Juneteenth Celebration in 2024.
