A Spartanburg County Councilman is facing charges for third-degree assault and battery from a fight with a neighbor. Spartanburg City Police say, Wednesday's arrest stems from an incident last September.
Councilman Monier Abusaft is accused of knocking the victim down and hurling a trash can at him. The police report says the confrontation started when the other man drove onto Abusaft's property to avoid a fallen tree.
The complainant also told police, Abusaft warned him he was armed as he returned to his truck and drove away. The Councilman, who is out of jail on bond, says he's looking forward to proving his innocence in court.
