An investigation into a deadly crash is ongoing after a body was found was in some underbrush off a highway in Western North Carolina. The Asheville Police Department responded to a reported crash on I-240 Westbound, just after 1AM Tuesday.
Officers arrived and found an unoccupied Toyota sedan at the scene. A witness told police they saw a person walking away from the vehicle, after the crash. Officers searched the area, but did not find anyone. Hours later, a pedestrian reported seeing a body under some underbrush on an embankment. Officers then located the body.
The deceased has been identified as 21 year old, Colby Dwyane Owens. Investigators determined that Owens was driving westbound on I-240 when his vehicle crossed all lanes of traffic, hit a guardrail and overturned. Owens was reportedly thrown from the vehicle when it overturned. Anyone with information on the crash is urged to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110.
