Election results: Mitchell narrowly nips Nail and more

Voters across the Upstate went to the polls Tuesday to make decisions in various races.

In the highly anticipated Primary Runoff for the Republican nod in the District 21 Statehouse race, Dianne Mitchell narrowly nipped Steve Nail. Unofficial results have Mitchell taking just over 50% of the vote and Nail garnering 49%.

In Spartanburg the phrase "meet the new boss same as the old boss" comes to mind as Incumbent Mayor Jerome Rice won in a landslide. Rice took over three quarters of the vote, 77% to be exact and challenger James Jones Sr. got just 22%.

Anderson County voters said no to new taxes, voting down the proposed 1% sales tax increase by a wide margin. nearly 80% said no on the referendum and just 21% said yes.

And in the Greenville City council races a longtime stalwart retained their seat and another Democrat also was able to secure a spot. Lillian Brock-Fleming defeated Republican Mike Kilgore in District 2 to secure the seat she has held for over 40 years and Tina Belge won the at-large seat over Matt Alexander.
