Evette responds after commencement speech canceled
South Carolina State University

The scheduled appearance at an in-state university has been cancelled for South Carolina's Lt. Governor. The announcement that Pam Evette would speak at South Carolina State's Spring Commencement drew backlash and protests. Evette responded referring to the protesters as "a woke mob" which drew heavy criticism online.

Regardless, as of yesterday Evette said she still planned to speak at the university. However, hours later University President Alexander Conyers announced to the student body that the invite for Evette has been rescinded. The issue students seem to have is Evette's anti-DEI stance.

Which in itself has been controversial, as political opponents have accused Evette of running a business that promoted and profited from DEI programs.

Since the cancellation, Evette has responded on social media saying " The fact that a speech had to be canceled for credible safety threats is exactly why we cannot give up the fight to end indoctrination and DEI on campuses once and for all".
