Fire Chief in Western North Carolina dies in off-duty accident

A long time firefighter in Western North Carolina has passed away. Officials say former Crooked Creek Fire Chief Steve Lytle died in an off-duty accident, Tuesday.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says he was operating a tractor or mower at the time.


Lytle was a longtime member and Chief of the Crooked Creek Fire Department in McDowell County. He previously served with the Fairview Fire Department. Services for Lytle are scheduled for next week.
