A former Clemson and NFL Linebacker will spend time in federal prison for running a ponzi scheme. Court records say 43 year old, John Robert Leake defrauded investors out of more than 5 million dollars.

Leake pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering. His scheme was predicated on promising high rates of return on fabricated ventures and investments.

Leake played for the Tigers for four years and was part of their 2003 Peach Bowl team. He then spent three seasons in the NFL with the Titans, Falcons, and Packers.

Leake has been sentenced to two and a half years. There's no parole in the federal system.
