A South Carolina law firm has announced a lawsuit against a former U.S. Olympian, a midlands business and the U.S. Figure Skating Association. The Strom Law Firm says it is representing three women who were sexually abused by their former figure skating coach.
Former Olympic Medalist Mark Cockerell is named as a defendant. The suit alleges that his sexual misconduct towards two of the victims happened when they were minors.
Flight, Fit and Dun a skating rink in Irmo is also named as a defendant. Lawyers for the alleged victims say, neither the skating rink nor the U.S. Figure Skating Association investigated multiple complaints of sexual misconduct against Cockerell. Attorneys say that likely would have curtailed his behavior before the victims in this case had met him.
