The Cherokee County Coroner has identified the driver killed in a collision and vehicle fire on I-85 south in Gaffney Thursday.
Coroner Dennis Fowler identified the deceased as 40-year-old Melissa Wilkinson Dehaven of King, North Carolina.
The collision was reported just before 3:30 Thursday morning.
Fowler in a press release said, “Dehaven’s vehicle struck a parked construction truck near the 95-mile marker before coming to a rest against a temporary concrete barrier wall. The Nissan caught fire trapping her inside the wreckage.”
He confirmed Dehaven’s cause of death was smoke inhalation and thermal burns.
