A Greenville man tied to a fatal overdose has been sentenced to over two decades in prison.
28-year-old Jalonzio Demarcus Gamble pleaded guilty to heroin trafficking, intent to distribute crack cocaine, and resisting arrest.
Investigators say a text exchange showed Gamble supplied drugs to the victim before their January 2022 overdose. He was arrested days later after a brief chase.
While out on bond, Gamble sold fentanyl and meth to undercover officers six times in 2024.
On Thursday, Gamble was sentenced to twenty-five years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
News Release from the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitors Office below:
Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Cindy Crick states that on October 16, 2025, Jalonzio Demarcus Gamble (28) pled guilty to Trafficking Over 28 grams of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine, and Resisting Arrest. The Honorable Vernon F. Dunbar sentenced Gamble to twenty-five years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Evidence presented during the plea hearing by Assistant Solicitor Grace B. Moroney established that investigators with the Greenville County Drug Enforcement Unit (“GCDEU”) Overdose Team discovered a text conversation between Gamble and the deceased overdose victim indicating that Gamble supplied narcotics to the deceased just prior to his death on January 8, 2022. On January 11, 2022, investigators approached Gamble outside of his home in Greenville County to obtain his cell phone. Gamble fled from the investigators on foot and dropped a baggie that was found to contain 29.41 grams of a heroin/fentanyl mixture. The foot chase continued and Gamble threw another baggie containing 5.61 grams of crack cocaine, at which point Gamble was apprehended.
While Gamble was out on bond for the January 2022 charge, he continued his drug dealing activities. Between the months of March and July 2024, Gamble sold trafficking weight fentanyl and methamphetamine to an undercover operative with the GCDEU on six occasions.
