An Upstate Sheriff's Office reports that one of its K-9's was fatally shot after biting a deputy. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says an off-duty deputy was unexpectedly bitten by the K-9 at their home, Sunday.

The two year old dog reportedly latched on to the deputy and refused to let go despite witnesses trying to pull the dog off and verbal commands to release. A neighbor who is also a family member of the deputy, came out and shot the dog.

The K-9's primary handler was away for training and the injured deputy was looking after the dog. The deputy was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The incident is under review by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office Of Professional Standards.
