Alex Murdaugh was convicted Thursday of gunning down his wife and son after a panel of 12 jurors spent less than three hours deliberating. The jury found him guilty of two counts each of murder and weapons possession without posing a single question to the judge while weighing the case.
The panel's decision came after they endured a trial that was 6 weeks long and included testimony from over 75 witnesses. Murdaugh himself even took the stand.
Prosecutors argued that Murdaugh used two different guns to kill his wife and son at the family's estate, Moselle on June 7th of 2021. Assistant Attorney General Creighton Waters told jurors that disbarred attorney carried out the double homicide to turn attention of off his financial misdeeds.
It marks the end of one of , if not the highest profile murder trial in South Carolina history. Certainly, it has been the most talked about case in the Palmetto State in the last three decades. Murdaugh faces up to life in prison, when he's sentenced.
