A deadly shootout between police and a suspect in Western North Carolina has been justified. The Buncombe County District Attorney's Office says the Asheville Police Department has been cleared in the deadly shooting of a suspect. The incident happened on Hendersonville Road in Asheville, in late April.
The NCSBI investigated the shooting which is standard protocol. Officials report that the suspect, James Jones fired first through a door and police returned fire. Jones was hit and died the next morning after being taken to the hospital.
An officer suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident. The DA's Office concluded that the use of deadly force was necessary to keep the community
