Officer bitten by dog during animal cruelty investigation

HPD
Honea Path Police Department

An Upstate officer was injured while trying to rescue dogs that were reportedly being mistreated. The Honea Path Police Department responded Sunday to reports of animal cruelty at a home on Rouse Street.

Three dogs were found outside and one dog was found inside an unoccupied home. Police say, the dogs looked to be severely malnourished and were chained up without food and water.

The suspect Darlene Bonita Jackson was then arrested on multiple counts of ill-treatment of animals.

All four dogs were taken to the animal shelter in Anderson County. One officer was bitten during the rescue effort and was taken to a hospital to be treated.
