The radio industry is mourning the loss of a legend. Veteran talk radio host Jim Bohannon has died at the age of 78. He passed at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca after losing his battle with cancer.
Bohannon was born in Oregon and grew up in Lebanon, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army, his time in the military included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Jim started his radio career after returning to the states after his time in the Army. He got his start in radio at stations in Virginia and Washington, D.C.
In 1983, he joined what would later become the nationally syndicated Westwood One Radio Network. Bohannon handled several duties there including filling in for another industry legend, Larry King. In 1993, when King left for CNN, Bohannon took over his syndicated radio timeslot.
That was the start of his nationally syndicated Jim Bohannon Show, which he hosted until shortly before his death. Bohannon lived in the Seneca area during his twilight years. Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster is assisting the Bohannon family.
