The sole Democratic candidate for Governor of South Carolina is being called on to drop out of the race.
Charleston attorney William Mullins McLeod is the only Democrat on the primary ticket for governor, but the South Carolina Democratic Party is calling for him to drop out after the police video of his arrest back in May was released earlier this week.
It came after reports of a disturbance caused by a man yelling in his underwear. The man was placed in a police cruiser and identified as McLeod as he proceeded to begin an hour-long often unintelligible rant that included both a racial slur and various profanities.
In a statement released after the video, South Carolina Democratic Party chair Christale Spain said, “It is clear that Mr. McLeod is navigating profound challenges and should focus on his mental and emotional well-being instead of a campaign for governor.”
