The State House and Senate has voted to approve a new 14 billion dollar budget. 25 house members voted against it, for various reasons.
Sarita Edgerton who represents District 34 in Spartanburg County joined the Charlie James Show, Wednesday afternoon. She explained why she voted it down.
Edgerton said " I had said if there was any money going to Planned Parenthood in it, I would not vote for it. That was the main sticking point and something I campaigned on".
Edgerton went on to mention that a budget advisory committee is projecting a major surplus.
Edgerton said "They estimated a surplus of over a billion dollars. That money they found is not the state's money, it's the taxpayers money".
The budget includes an $18,000 per year raise that legislators voted to give themselves. The full interview can be heard at the link below.
