A South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper that was injured in the line of duty has died. As we previously reported, Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks was critically injuring during a traffic stop just after 2AM Sunday in Orangeburg County.
Ricks was struck by a box truck while conducting a traffic stop on I-26. He was hospitalized with a severe brain injury with significant swelling, multiple lower back fractures, and placed on a ventilator.
His wife confirmed his death on social media, Thursday . 45 year old Anthony Aydlette of Hanahan was arrested and charged with driving under suspension, additional charges may be coming.
The South Carolina Department Of Public Safety released a statement on the death of Trooper Ricks.
"It is with deep sadness that SCDPS announces the loss of one of our own, Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks. TFC Ricks passed away Wednesday night, nearly four days after being hit by a vehicle while performing a traffic stop in Orangeburg County. Ricks has proudly served in Troop 7 since 2023. This is a devastating loss for his family, for those who worked alongside him in Troop Seven and the entire Highway Patrol and DPS family. Our deepest condolences go to his wife and family as they navigate this immense loss."
