SCSO

One suspect is in custody and another is dead following a pursuit with Upstate deputies. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says two suspects fled a traffic stop in a U-Haul truck and then ran on foot to try and elude capture. Lt. Kevin Bobo says, a Deputy initiated a traffic stop on the suspects around 2:20 Monday Afternoon on Asheville Highway.

The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued. The vehicle pursuit ended at the Villa Apartments near Asheville Highway and John Dodd Road in Spartanburg. The two suspects then exited the vehicle and ran on foot. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

The passenger ran to the back of the apartment complex and then through the backyard of a neighboring house. He was caught and the sheriff's office says he immediately became unresponsive. Life saving measures were attempted and multiple does of Narcan were administered by the Deputies. EMS and Fire personnel arrived on scene and continued to perform life saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene.

The Coroner's Office has identified the suspect as 55 year old, Richard Scott Turner of Cowpens. The other suspect has not yet been identified and SLED has been called in to investigate the incident.
