A suspect is injured after an officer involved shooting, over the weekend. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded Saturday morning to a domestic violence call in Blacksburg.
The Sheriff's Office says the suspect 58 year old, Gregory Scott Byers approached deputies while armed with a shotgun. Byers refused to drop the weapon and a deputy fired multiple times, hitting Byers.
Deputies tried to detain Byers, he then pulled a pistol that was concealed on his body and tried to fire it. Another deputy then fired on Byers and hit him in the leg. A struggle ensued over the pistol and the gun went off into the air, during the struggle.
Byers was tased and subdued, he was then taken into custody. No deputies were injured in the incident. SLED is investigating the incident, which is standard protocol statewide in officer involved shootings.
