A suspect is facing charges after a wild weekend chase in North Georgia. The Hart County Sheriff's Office was notified that a Subaru Outback had been stolen on the Hart County side of Lavonia, Sunday morning.
Several hours later the Georgia State Patrol located the vehicle on Highway 17in Lavonia and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver then fled and led State Patrol and Lavonia Police Department on a chase down Highway 328. Police say, the suspect driver identified as 29 year old, Shawn Mays crashed the vehicle into a guardrail on a bridge over Lake Hartwell.
He then reportedly ran on foot and jumped into Lake Hartwell. A perimeter was then set up and Mays was pulled from the water and taken into custody. Mays is facing charges for vehicle theft, fleeing and eluding and multiple traffic violations.
