Timmons set to run unopposed after Election Commission ruling

The path to re-election is clearing up for a U.S. Congressman in the Upstate. 4th District Republican Congressman William Timmons will run unopposed in November. The South Carolina Election Commission has ruled that Democrats won't be able to replace Kenneth Hill, who dropped out of the race, earlier this summer. Hill cited time commitments with his work out of state, as the reason for his withdrawal.

The Commission voted 3 to 2 that Hill's reason for withdrawal did not meet state standards to substitute for him on the ballot. State Democratic Party Chairman Trav Robertson says, the party may challenge the ruling in court.


Timmons has been at the center of controversy this summer after being accused of abusing his power and having an extra-marital affair in his ongoing feud with Real Estate Developer Ron Rallis. Timmons did not confirm nor deny the allegations of the affair during appearances on WORD programming in July, he won the Republican Primary in June edging three other candidates
