President Biden's parting round of pardons and prison sentence commutations will allow an Upstate man jailed for what federal prosecutors called a "colossal ponzi scheme" back on the streets before Christmas.
Former Anderson County Councilman and State Board of Education member Ron Wilson was sentenced to twenty years in prison twelve years ago. He's now 81 years old.
Investors in his Atlantic Bullion and Coin Company believed they were purchasing silver, but prosecutors say losses amounted to around 90 million dollars by the time the scheme collapsed.
Wilson had been transferred from jail to a halfway house three years ago, later placed on home confinement. His sentence was among those commuted by Joe Biden on December 12th. Wilson will officially regain his freedom on December 22nd.
