An Upstate man is in custody after leading deputies in North Georgia, over the weekend. The Hart County Sheriff's Office says deputies were conducting a safety check on Lavonia Highway, Friday night.
The Sheriff's Office says 53 year old, Michael Gibert of Anderson County fled the attempted stop. He then deputies on a chase on I-85 northbound towards the South Carolina state line.
Gibert's truck hit another vehicle, which ended the chase on the Georgia side of the state line. Gibert was taken into custody and officials say no injuries were reported in the crash.
Gibert is charged with fleeing arrest, DUI, open container and multiple driving violations. The Sheriff's Office says he was wanted in Hart and Anderson Counties at the time of his arrest.
