A Spartanburg woman is facing drug trafficking and weapons charges after a traffic stop in the Upstate, last week. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says their Narcotics Investigators and other units made a traffic stop in Boiling Springs that led to the discovery of a large amount of drugs and two guns, last Thursday.

25 year old Katelin Lee Abernathy was found in a vehicle with more than two pounds of fentanyl, 20 grams of meth, a pistol and an SKS rifle. That discovery led to a search warrant being obtained and executed on a storage unit that Abernathy used. In that search, more than a pound of fentanyl and 7 additional guns were found.

Abernathy is charged with trafficking fentanyl and meth and a weapons violations. A judge has denied bond requests for Abernathy and she is being held without bail in Spartanburg County. The Union County Sheriff's Office, SLED and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office all assisted in the drug bust.

A recent DEA article claims that a kilo of fentanyl or 2.25 pounds of the drug is enough to potentially kill hundreds of thousands of people. Abernathy had more than 3 pounds total.
