An Upstate woman will spend the next quarter century behind bars for shooting and killing her fiancé. As we previously reported, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting at a home on Moore Memorial Highway near Liberty in March of 2022.

Upon arrival, a man was found dead with a gunshot wound. He was identified as Kennedy David Drayton. His fiancé Nicole Michelle Heape told investigators she shot him in self defense after an argument between the two.

She has pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntary manslaughter in connection to the shooting. Heape has been sentenced to 25 years in the state prison system.
