There's a special statement from the Greenville County Schools in response to Trump administration changes to policies that had prohibited immigration agents from making arrests in schools and churches.
The statement from the Greenville Schools District office was issued as concern, and in some cases backlash, mounted around the nation over the president's order allowing ICE raids to target suspect illegals on school campuses, possibly taking children into custody.
GCS Spokesman Tim Waller says the statement was in response to questions regarding the concern.
The Greenville County statement is below
“As always, if any law enforcement agency including ICE comes to campus, school administrators verify the appropriate credentials and paperwork to ensure that the District meets its legal obligations to cooperate with law enforcement while also respecting and protecting the rights of our students. As a reminder, according to federal law, the District cannot ask about a student’s immigration status."
