On Friday morning's episode of the Tara Show, Payton McNabb made a guest appearance. She is a former high school volleyball player at Hiwassee Dam High School near Murphy, NC. McNabb's playing career was cut short when she was severely injured after a transgender athlete, identifying as a female spiked a ball off of her face.
The incident happened while playing a game at Highlands School in North Carolina, about 60 miles away. McNabb was knocked unconscious in the incident and suffered injuries that she still feels the effects from.
After McNabb's appearance on the Tara Show, I reached out to Highlands School Athletic Director Brett Lamb for comment. Lamb said " We hate that Peyton was injured in that game. We never want any athlete to get injured in any competition. The decision to allow transgender athletes to compete (as females) was a state decision not a local decision. So we were following the orders we were given".
The incident in Western North Carolina happened in 2022 but resurfaced after the Olympic Women's Boxing controversy involving fighter Imane Khelif of Algeria.
